About Misfit Hobbies

At Misfit Hobbies, we believe the best stories happen around a table—whether you’re crawling through a dungeon, bluffing your way to victory, or sharing a meal.

We’re a small independent studio based in Northern Ireland, making imaginative, accessible tabletop content for misfits everywhere. From system-agnostic TTRPG books to original games like Cryptborn, we design with care, creativity, and a deep love for the hobby.

Our books have travelled to over 30 countries, helped spark thousands of stories, and made GMs’ lives just a little easier. Alongside our roleplaying titles, we’re developing a growing catalogue of card and board games built for storytelling, strategy, and sometimes a bit of chaos.

But we’re also here for something more.

For every sale we make, we donate a recipe zine to a local food bank, designed to help families create simple, nutritious meals with what they have. Because we believe everyone deserves to feel welcome, at a table or around one.

If you’ve ever felt like you don’t quite fit the mould, you’re in the right place.

Samuel, The Chief Misfit

I’m Sam, and I started Misfit Hobbies because I just couldn’t stop making things, and I wanted to build a space where I could get the things that I was making into the hands of people I knew would love it.

I spent more than a decade working behind the scenes in film and TV, on shows like Game of Thrones and Krypton, before turning my attention to tabletop games.

In 2023, I published my first TTRPG zine, and things grew fast from there. Since then, I’ve released over a dozen books, launched multiple successful Kickstarter campaigns, and started designing original games like Cryptborn, a solo dungeon crawl inspired by Soulslike video games.

Misfit Hobbies is still just me (plus some very patient freelancers), but it’s built on big ideas: that games should be accessible, stories should be shared, and community can be built one dice roll at a time.

Thanks for being part of the journey. It means more than you know.
