Meet the Chief Misfit

Hi, I’m Samuel, the founder, creator, and Chief Misfit of Misfit Hobbies.

I’ve always believed that the best stories are the ones we tell each other. Around the table. Across a map. Through dice, laughter, and a little chaos. Misfit Hobbies was never meant to be just a brand, it was built as a place for people who didn’t quite fit into the mainstream of tabletop gaming. People who wanted something a little weirder. A little wilder. A little more… well, misfit.

Before I started Misfit Hobbies, I worked in the film and television industry for over a decade. I’ve been on sets, written scripts, told stories that played out on screens. But nothing quite lit me up like the moment I first played a tabletop roleplaying game (it was Warhammer 2nd Edition by the way, thanks Krzysztof, you're in a way responsible for all of this). There’s something deeply special about the way a game or a book can connect people, and I knew I wanted to do more of that.

Misfit Hobbies began with a few oddball ideas and a stack of dice. It’s grown into a publishing house that’s shipped zines and books to players in over 30 countries, launched more than a dozen Kickstarter projects, and brought new worlds and weird encounters to thousands of game tables. We’ve built games like Cryptborn, brewed cocktails and adventures in The Adventurer’s Guide to Alchemy, and even created items that would make your party blush (Kinky Trinkets, anyone?).

But at the heart of it all, Misfit Hobbies is about people. About community. About showing up. Not just as a creator, but as a human being trying to make a little difference in a big, messy world. That’s why, starting in 2025, we made the commitment to donate a recipe book zine to a food bank for every sale we make. Because stories are powerful, but so is making sure someone eats tonight.

If you’ve backed a project, shared a post, picked up a book, or even just hung around to see what we’re cooking up next, thank you. You’re part of what makes this whole thing work.

We’re not the biggest name in tabletop publishing. But we’re proud to be one of the most heartfelt, most creative, and most unapologetically misfit.

And we’re just getting started.
